There is no such thing as a perfect interview but you can definitely come close. When preparing for a job interview focus on these three tips:
- Give Examples
- Add Value to the Company
- Ask Good Questions
Try not to answer any interview question with a one word answer. Always try to explain each answer with a quick but relevant example. Providing great examples is one way to prove that you are the perfect candidate. When preparing for your interview think of as many examples that shows that you’re good at problem solving, time management, conflict resolution etc. You need to show that you understand the job description so use examples that are obviously relevant to the role.
You need to show how your skills and experience would be an asset to the company. Maybe you can make the company more money. Maybe you’re an expert or have valuable experience working with a certain program that the company would benefit from. You need to look at your experience and skill set and figure out how you will add value to the company.
You can ask questions about the company, the job or even the interviewer. Just make sure that the answers to the questions cannot be found on the companies website, the job description or on LinkedIN. The best interview is when it’s more of a conversation than a formal Q&A so listen closely to the interviewers and make sure you ask original questions.
At the End of the Day
When preparing for your interview have your resume and the job description in front of you. Start thinking of great examples that proves that you have what it takes. Think of original questions to ask about the company, role or the interviewer and make sure you believe that you are a great candidate and the company would be lucky to have you because……(fill in the blank).
Remember to also be yourself. Being different and standing out can be a great thing. Recruiters meet and interview dozens of candidates. You’re goal is to be the one they remember.
